June 2008:

Sample ImageThe Association reminds ALL businesses in Hillcrest to be on the lookout for a voting ballot in the mail this week. WE NEED A MAJORITY OF OUR 1200+ BUSINESSES TO RESPOND by marking a ballot and returning it in the enclosed, stamped envelopes. Please take a moment to send this back to us ASAP to allow business at the Association to run smoothly.

The by-laws changes are necessary due to a greatly increased membership since the Association was founded. We've grown from 300 businesses, when the by-laws were written, to over 1200! This makes doing business a completely different process here in our office on Fifth Ave, and we need everyone's help in getting this done.

If you have any questions about the vote, the ballot or anything else, feel free to call us at the office, Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm and we'll be happy to assist. Thank you, wonderful Hillcrest Businesses... you keep this neighborhood running!

Pride Flags

From San Diego Pride association:

On July 1, prominent members of the community will be joined by local politicians and business leaders at a flag raising ceremony for a rainbow flag which will fly above the streets of San Diego for the month of Pride. This will be the official kickoff of a whole month's worth of Pride events and celebrations leading up to the parade and festival.

We are asking businesses throughout San Diego County to also display a rainbow flag from their storefronts in the month of July to show their support for the events. The rainbow flag has been a symbol of the LGBT community for 30 years and was first popularized as a symbol of LGBT pride by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. The colors of the rainbow have become symbolic of both the unity and diversity of the LGBT community.

A Hillcrest Art Walk

Sample Image

Sunday, June 15th saw the first art walk in Hillcrest and was a hit among the many folks who came to see the wonderful local artists brought in by Jill Johnson of More Super Events. Many people were out for a morning stroll, leaving the Farmers Market, or gathering for Father's Day brunch as well, and all contributed to a festive, leisurely Sunday afternoon in the heart of Hillcrest.
