Hillcrest Mardi Gras 2008 |
|
Another Successful Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday, February 5. Despite the rain, Mardi Gras was still a good time in the Hillcrest District. This event has become one of the community’s most exciting evenings due to the fun and excitement it creates each year, and also, to what it has contributed by way of scholarships and civic improvements.
Hillcrest Mardi Gras is for 21 and older ages and takes place on University Avenue from First to Fourth Avenues. Mardi Gras consists of live entertainment, bands, dancing, DJs, laser light shows, rides and games. It also includes beer garden, a VIP tent, and lots of beads. The event has grown to over 2,500 people in attendance. The hours are from 6pm until 11pm.
Since the first Mardi Gras, over $50,000 has been raised and distributed for community improvements and youth scholarships. Sponsors have included Absolut, Anheuser Busch, Viejas Casino, Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s, and many more restaurants. Media coverage has been extensive as well.
This year the sponsors were as follows: Absolut, Anheuser Busch, Viejas Casino, Pucker, Ascend Realty, All Worlds Video, California Bank & Trust, Sysco Foods, Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s and Lips.
