This year, CityFest will also include the annual Book and Literacy Fair, on Fifth Ave Between Anderson Pl. and Brookes Pl. This is a community event originally created to support San Diego's independent book sellers, three of which are right on Fifth Avenue. There will be a Story Nook for children in the grape arbor at the Design Center, and a Coffee Nook will be in the cul d'sac at Brookes Place and will feature conversations with local authors in a literary coffee house atmosphere, co-sponsored with San Diego Writer's Ink.

CityFest Hillcrest

CityFest 2007
The 24th annual CityFest arts and crafts festival was held on a warm but mild and sunny Sunday and drew an estimated attendance of 125,000 – an increase over the previous year. About 215 individual sellers used about 270 booths to display and sell a wide range of arts and crafts. Continuous entertainment was in full swing throughout the day, provided by bands playing on three stages. Over 25 food vendors offered up a wide variety of tasty food treats, from tacos to hot dogs to Barbecue to desserts. A VIP tent offered unlimited food and two drinks plus two fans to keep the garden cool. Live media coverage throughout the day broadcast the highlights of the festival.

The event also offered two beer gardens which were full during the warm midday. A variety of micro-brews provided beer as well as Budweiser, the major sponsor. The police reported no incidents, while the First Aid paramedics said that there were several calls for sunscreen and water. The event was the annual celebration of the re-lighting of the Hillcrest community sign back in 1984.
