The Hillcrest Business Association (HBA) was formed in 1921 as a non-profit organization whose purpose was to help promote the businesses in our neighborhood of San Diego. In 1984, a majority of the businesses voted to form a special yearly assessment (fee) that would be used to pay for promotions and improvements to the business district.
Fees are paid when you pay for the annual business certificate. These fees vary from $30 to $125 and are collected by the city Treasurer and held in trust and returned to the HBA in the form of requests for reimbursement.
Our services include such things as twice monthly watering and landscaping of 100 trees, walking ambassadors six days a week, a quarterly newsletter, participation in traffic studies and workshops to find solutions to traffic problems, a weekly farmer’s market and assistance with resources to help get permits, get in contact with government representatives, finding solutions to common neighborhood problems such as litter removal and street cleaning. We are your voice down at city hall when they propose ordinances that can adversely affect us.
We have monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 5pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center located near Ralph’s and Trader Joe’s. A volunteer board of directors administers the programs and financial requirements through reports and actions taken at meetings.
The office is staffed by two employees, Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.
